Sunshine Queens, Pelican Stars, 10 others vie for NWFL Premiership promotion slots

A total of 12 teams will battle for two promotion slots to the elite division, Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership at the end of the 2023 NWFL Championship on July 14.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the league, Modupe Shabi confirmed the dates and venue for this year’s second-tier NWFL Championship, with the competition to take place in Ikenne and Sagamu, Ogun State with Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, and FC Ebedei Stadium, Sagamu as the venue for the week-long league.
From July 7 to 14, the Remo township of Ikenne and Sagamu would host 12 teams in a bid to determine the two sides that will move up to the top-flight of the women’s football league in Nigeria.
The two teams with the highest points at the end of the league will gain promotion to the NWFL Premiership, while two teams will be relegated to the third division, NWFL Nationwide League.
Prince Kazeem Eletu, Honey Badgers, Kwara Ladies, Ekiti Queens, Imo Striker Queens, Dreamstar Ladies, Sunshine Queens, Lakeside Football Academy, Delta Babes, Pelican Stars, Dannaz FC, and Moje Queens are the participating teams.
Ibom Angels and Heartland Queens gained promotion during the last edition in Ijebu Ode Ogun State, at the Dipo Dina Stadium.
11 teams took part with the top teams from the two groups gaining promotion at the end of the league.
