Delta Queens, 36 others cleared for 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League

The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has cleared 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership champions, Rivers Angels, and 36 other clubs to partake at this year’s Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The football ruling body in Africa announced that all clubs participating in the qualifiers of the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote D’Ivoire 2023 have met the CAF Club Licensing Platform (CLOP) System requirements.
A total of 37 clubs, who will be partaking in the qualifiers of the CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote D’Ivoire 2023 have completed and met all the requirements of the system.
Four additional clubs will take part in the 2023 Zonal Qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League, an increase from last year’s number of 33 teams.
Delta Queens dethroned 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League bronze medalists and WAFU-B Champions, Bayelsa Queens after a 2-1 win in the final NWFL Premiership Super Six match to emerge as Nigeria’s sole representative.
The team will face Union Sportive of Burkina Faso and Athletico of Cote d’Ivoire along with SAM Nelly of Benin when the WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers get underway in Benin City, capital of Edo State, Nigeria, from August 18 through to August 31.
Holder, ASFAR FC of Morocco has already qualified for the tournament and will be joined by seven other teams.
A team each from WAFU-A, WAFU-B (West Africa Zone A and B), UNAF (North Africa), UNIFFAC (Central Africa), CECAFA (East Africa), COSAFA (Southern Africa), and a team from the host country, Cote d’Ivoire will make up the eight teams that will take part in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa and ASFAR won the first two editions of the tournament in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
