Randy Waldrum happy with resilient Nigeria after shocking Australia
By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria coach Randy Waldrum has hailed the mentality of his players following their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Australia in their second Group B game of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons produced an excellent display to complete a come-from-behind win over the Matildas on Thursday at the Brisbane Stadium.
Despite their opening-day draw against defending Olympic Champions, Canada, the team remains underdogs heading into their match against the co-hosts nation, Australia.
The West Africans were the lowest ranked in Group B in the 40th position and but earned a point against seventh-ranked Canada and maximum points against 10th-ranked Australia.
Uchenna Kalu, Osinachi Ohale, and Asisat Oshoala were the heroines as the Super Falcons came from behind for the first time to win a World Cup tie and Waldrum could not hide his excitement.
“The mentality of the team is incredible. It would have been easy to give up before halftime after they scored, but they responded immediately,” Waldrum told Victor Modo.
“They showed great resilience to come back and turn the game around in the second half.
“I just think the team has an incredible spirit, and the chemistry together is unbelievable. As long as we have that, we can beat anybody.”
