By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria-eligible forward, Rinsola Babajide scored her first goal for Spanish top-flight Liga F side, UDG Tenerife as her new team secured a 2-0 win over second-tier Spanish Segunda Division women’s side, Femarguin on Friday.
Spanish forward, Ainhoa Delgado scored the first goal of the friendly match in the 28th minute of play and Babajide doubled the lead for her side in the 73rd minute to give her team a comfortable win.
The goal was her first since joining UDG Tenerife from another Spanish top-flight side, Real Betis on July 3. The player of Nigerian descent signed for two seasons, until June 2025, to complete the attack of the team led by José Herrera.
The new blue and white attacker arrived on the island after two seasons at Real Betis, in which she scored ten goals (nine in the Spanish Liga F and one in the Queen’s Cup).
She was voted Betis player of the season at the end of the campaign last season. Previously, she was part of the historic Liverpool for four seasons between 2018 and 2021, Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2021/2022 campaign (on loan from Liverpool), Watford (2017/2018), Milwall (2015/2016) and Crystal Palace.
Babajide has represented England at under-19, under-20, and under-21 categories, playing four games in the Under-20 World Cup held in France in 2018, where she won the bronze medal.
She was also called up by the senior team for training sessions in 2020 but never featured for the senior, meaning she is still eligible to represent Nigeria through her parents.
