2023 NYG: Lagos completes gold medal double in women’s and men’s football

Lagos State proved itself as the home of youth football after the two teams from the state won gold medals in the women’s and men’s football finals of the 2023 National Youth Games in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State on Friday.

In the women’s football final, Lagos State thrashed Ogun State 5-0 in the final match to win a gold medal.

As the final whistle blew, and with a well-deserved championship title under Ijiri Eugene belt having achieved her personal goal of not conceding a single goal throughout the competition.

Her elation was palpable as she expressed her pride and happiness, recognizing the significance of her remarkable feat.

Ijiri, Lagos State goalkeeper kept clean sheets throughout the competition.

Earlier on Thursday, Cross River State beat Abia State in the third-place playoff to clinch the bronze medal in the women’s football category.

In the men’s category, Lagos defeated Plateau State to win the gold medal.

Akwa Ibom State won the bronze medal match a day earlier.

The results meant Lagos State cleared the football gold medals at the 7th National Youth Games.
