Vincent Enyeama Signals Imminent Return Following Prolonged Injury Hiatus

Nigeria’s seasoned goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has provided an encouraging update on his journey back to full fitness after a protracted injury lay-off, raising hopes of a return to competitive football. The 35-year-old shot-stopper, who sustained an injury while playing for Lille in April, has been diligently undergoing rehabilitation to regain his form.
Enyeama, Nigeria’s most capped player with 101 international appearances, took to social media on Tuesday to share his optimism about his recovery progress. In a tweet, he expressed gratitude for reaching a significant milestone: “And after 6months.1st group training.🙏🙏🙏thanks be to God.and everyone who worked tirelessly for me to get here.”
Accompanying the tweet was a 52-second video showcasing Enyeama engaged in training activities, including facing shots and participating in short runs on the pitch.
The former Enyimba goalkeeper, revered for both his record-breaking number of caps and goalkeeping prowess, holds legendary status in Nigerian football. Enyeama played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ historic Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2013, ending a 19-year title drought. His international career includes representing Nigeria in three World Cups: 2002 in Korea/Japan, 2010 in South Africa, and 2014 in Brazil.
Although Enyeama retired from the national team in 2015 due to a fallout with then Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh, the possibility of his return looms as current Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has expressed admiration for the veteran goalkeeper.
On the club front, Enyeama faces the prospect of seeking a new team, as Lille manager Marcelo Bielsa has excluded him and several other players from his plans since his arrival in the summer.
