Simon Laments Missed Opportunity as Gent Settles for 1-1 Draw Against Kortrijk

In a bittersweet encounter on Saturday, Super Eagles forward Moses Simon expressed his disappointment despite securing his first league goal of the season in Gent’s 1-1 away draw against Kortrijk. The Nigerian international found the net in the 60th minute, opening his goal account after nine league appearances. However, Herve Kage leveled the score for Kortrijk in the 74th minute.
Reflecting on the match, Simon conveyed his frustration with the outcome despite his personal achievement. In an exclusive statement to the club’s official website, he remarked, “That I scored does not mean much. The opening goal is always important, yes, but I’m disappointed with the end result after we’ve given everything.”
Despite facing a resilient Kortrijk defense, Gent dominated the game from the outset. Simon acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents, stating, “It was certainly not easy because Kortrijk were good defensively. Still, we had the opportunity to win the match, and then it is very unfortunate that it did not happen.”
While expressing disappointment, Simon acknowledged the quality of Kortrijk’s equalizer, crediting Chevalier, the assist provider, and praising Kagé for a well-executed finish. He stated, “What went wrong with the equalizer? There was little pressure on Chevalier, the player who gave the pass, but it was also very beautifully finished by Kagé.”
The match, marked by Simon’s milestone goal and Kage’s equalizer, showcased the intensity of competition in the Belgian top flight, leaving Gent with mixed feelings as they fell short of securing all three points despite a commendable performance.
