Wydad Casablanca’s Chisom Chikatara Revels in Historic CAF Champions League Triumph

In a historic moment for Nigerian football, Wydad Casablanca forward, Chisom Chikatara, has expressed elation at becoming part of an exclusive cadre of Nigerian players who have secured victory in the CAF Champions League with foreign clubs. Wydad Casablanca clinched their second CAF Champions League title on Saturday, securing a 2-1 aggregate triumph over Al Ahly of Egypt, marking their first victory in the prestigious tournament in 25 years.
The achievement aligns Chikatara with the illustrious ranks of Emmanuel Amuneke, John Zaki, and Willy Okpara, who have previously tasted success in the competition with their respective teams. The former Abia Warriors star expressed his joy at the triumph, saying, “To win the CAF Champions League with this club (Wydad) is a fantastic achievement for me. To be on the same list with a great footballer like Emmanuel Amuneke is a great honour and one that will remain with me forever,” as he disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com.
Wydad’s victory marked their first title since 1992, adding an extra layer of significance for both the players and the passionate fan base. Despite facing challenges securing regular playing time since his move from Abia Warriors last year, Chikatara remains optimistic about the future. He shared, “I have been in and out of the team due to injury, but things are better now, and I hope to play more games.”
Chikatara, who gained prominence with the Nigeria home-based team during the Africa Nations Championship in Rwanda in 2016, where he scored four goals, is now poised to contribute further to Wydad Casablanca’s continued success, aiming to overcome his injury woes and secure a pivotal role within the team.
