In a heated clash at Gelora Bangkalan Stadium on Wednesday, former Super Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie faced a controversial exit when he received a straight red card in the 41st minute during Madura United’s 3-1 defeat against table-topping Bhayangkara FC in the Indonesian top flight.
The match began with intensity, both teams vying for control, but tensions flared as Odemwingie’s aggression led to his dismissal in the 41st minute. The red card proved to be a turning point for Madura United, as Andik Rendika Rama and Rendy Siregar followed suit with their own dismissals in the 57th and 85th minutes, respectively.
Bhayangkara FC capitalized on the numerical advantage, securing a convincing victory with a remarkable hat-trick from Ilija Spasojevic in the 49th, 67th, and 90th minutes. Madura United managed to salvage some pride with Febrianto Rizky finding the net in the 69th minute, but it was not enough to alter the outcome.
With this defeat, Madura United currently holds the fourth spot in the league table with 60 points, while Bhayangkara FC remains at the summit with 66 points.
Odemwingie, who marked his 23rd league appearance in the game, has been a pivotal force for Madura United this season, contributing 15 goals. Despite the setback, the former Super Eagles forward remains a key figure in the team’s pursuit of success in the Indonesian top-flight league.
