Iheanacho’s Performance Rated Average as Leicester City Suffers Defeat to Manchester City in League Cup

In a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash between Leicester City and his former club Manchester City, Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho’s performance was deemed average by the Leicester Mercury. Leicester City was ultimately eliminated from the competition after losing 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of play.
Former AS Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for Manchester City in the 26th minute, but Jamie Vardy equalized for Leicester in the 90th minute, sending the game into extra time. Iheanacho, who was given a rare start for Leicester, failed to leave a lasting impression before being substituted by Vardy in the 57th minute.
According to the Leicester Mercury’s assessment of each Leicester player’s performance, Iheanacho received a rating of five out of ten. The news channel commented on his display, stating, “Unimpressive performance against his former club. Substituted before the hour mark.”
The Leicester City players were individually assessed by the Leicester Mercury, with ratings as follows: Ben Hamer (6), Daniel Amartey (6), Aleksandar Dragovic (5), Harry Maguire (7), Christian Fuchs (6), Marc Albrighton (6), Andy King (5), Vicente Iborra (6), Ben Chilwell (5), Shinji Okazaki (7), and Kelechi Iheanacho (5).
Leicester City’s defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup quarter-finals marks the end of their cup run this season. Despite their efforts, they were unable to overcome the reigning champions, who have been in formidable form throughout the competition.
Iheanacho will likely be disappointed with his below-par performance against his former club. However, it is worth noting that Leicester City’s overall performance was commendable, with several players putting in solid displays. The team can now focus their attention on their upcoming Premier League fixtures and aim to climb the table.
As the Carabao Cup progresses and the remaining teams vie for a place in the final, the disappointment of Leicester City’s defeat will undoubtedly serve as motivation for their future endeavors.
