Onyekuru Set for Knee Scan Following Injury in Anderlecht’s Victory

Nigeria’s prolific forward, Henry Onyekuru, is set to undergo a thorough knee examination this weekend after sustaining an injury during Anderlecht’s hard-fought 1-0 triumph against his former club, Eupen, in a Belgian First Division A clash on Friday night, according to Completesportsnigeria.com.

Onyekuru, 20, started his 19th league game of the season but faced a premature exit in the 78th minute when he was stretchered off, making way for Ivan Obradovic. The sole goal of the game came from the boots of the Ghanaian-born Belgian youth international, Francis Amuzu, who found the net after 25 minutes.

Kristof Terreur, a correspondent with Belgian outlet HNL, reported on Saturday morning that the Super Eagles star had overstretched his knee during the match, requiring a stretcher to leave the field. Terreur tweeted, “Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru overstretched his knee yesterday. Taken off on a stretcher. He’ll undergo a scan this weekend to discover the full extent of the injury,” accompanied by a poignant image of Onyekuru being carried off.

Onyekuru, who moved to Everton from Eupen at the start of the season before being promptly loaned to Anderlecht, has overcome a sluggish start to the campaign, showcasing impressive form. With nine goals in 19 league appearances and a total of 10 goals in 28 games across all competitions, the young forward has proven his mettle despite primarily featuring as a wide forward.

Anderlecht’s Friday night victory solidified their hold on third place in the Belgian top-flight table, amassing 37 points from 20 matches and trailing leaders Club Brugge by 13 points. Chaleroi sits in second place with 39 points.
