Kayode Olanrewaju Unavailable for Girona’s Clash Amidst Uncertainty

Nigerian striker, Kayode Olanrewaju, remains absent from LaLiga Santander side Girona following the Christmas break, forcing him to miss the club’s league clash against Las Palmas at Montilivi today (Saturday). This marks the second consecutive game the 24-year-old forward has been unavailable since failing to report back to the club after the holiday hiatus.
Olanrewaju was also notably absent from the matchday squad during Girona’s 4-2 defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla stadium last week. According to reports from the Spanish daily, L’Esportiu, the former Austria Wien striker has attracted interest from multiple teams during the January transfer window. Additionally, he is reportedly concerned about his chances of securing a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Despite his goal drought, having failed to score in 12 LaLiga Santander games, Girona is reluctant to part ways with Olanrewaju before the end of the season. The club believes in his potential to rediscover his scoring form under the guidance of manager Pablo Machin.
Olanrewaju, who made his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria against South Africa in an African Nations Cup qualifier in June last year, has earned three international caps.
Currently positioned 13th in the LaLiga Santander table with 23 points from 18 games, Girona faces uncertainties surrounding Olanrewaju’s future as the January transfer window progresses
