Shehu Abdullahi Lauds Anorthosis’ Return to Summit Despite Draw

Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi has voiced his delight as Anorthosis reclaimed the top spot in the Cypriot first division league, following a goalless draw against Doxa Katokopia on Tuesday. The draw, while not the ideal result, was sufficient to elevate Anorthosis to the league summit with 37 points.
Anorthosis returned to action for the first time in 2018 after concluding 2017 with a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Apoel Nicosia, marking their inaugural league loss of the season. Abdullahi, reflecting on the recent draw, acknowledged the team’s dominance during the game but lamented their inability to convert scoring chances into goals.
“We dominated, but obviously the goals dried up. We are still positive; the away point moved us to the top of the table,” remarked Abdullahi in the aftermath of the match. Despite the offensive challenges, the defender expressed gratitude to the Anorthosis club fans for their unwavering support during the game, highlighting the significant role played by the passionate supporters.
Anorthosis now sets the pace in the Cypriot league, aiming to maintain their position and build on the positive start to the new year. Abdullahi’s commendation of the fans underlines the crucial role played by supporters in bolstering the morale of the team, even in the face of a less-than-ideal result.
