Las Palmas Suffers Defeat Despite Etebo’s Efforts; Ideye’s Malaga Relegated

In LaLiga action on Thursday, Oghenekaro Etebo made his 10th start for Las Palmas, but the team suffered a 1-0 loss to Real Betis. Junior Firpo scored in stoppage time, securing the victory for Real Betis and pushing them up to fifth place in the Spanish LaLiga standings with 55 points from 33 games. Nigerian forward Imoh Ezekiel, who came on as a substitute in the 84th minute, made his sixth appearance for Las Palmas.

Despite their efforts, Las Palmas couldn’t secure a positive result in this encounter. Etebo, a consistent presence in the starting lineup, continues to contribute to the team’s performance.

In another LaLiga fixture, Brown Ideye started for Malaga, but they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Levante, leading to their relegation. Emmanuel Boateng’s stoppage-time goal sealed Malaga’s fate, confirming their position at the bottom of the table with 17 points from 33 matches. With five games remaining, Malaga is 17 points adrift of safety.

Ideye had a notable chance to score in the 19th minute, but his header was saved by Oier Olazabal. Despite his efforts, Malaga couldn’t avoid the relegation, and Ideye was substituted in the 83rd minute by Borja Baston. The Nigerian international, on loan from Tianjin TEDA, has scored once for Malaga since his arrival.

Isaac Success, another Nigerian player, was not included in the matchday squad for the game. The results mark a challenging period for Nigerian players in LaLiga, with both Las Palmas and Malaga facing setbacks in their recent fixtures.
