AFCON 2023: FG and Sponsor host silver-winning Super Eagles

Nigeria senior men’s national team returned to awesome receptions in the the Federal Capital Territory after their second-place finish at the just concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria lost 2-1 to host nation, Cote D’Ivoire in the AFCON final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday.

Despite the final defeat to the hosts, the Super Eagles were still hosted to a lavished welcome breakfast upon their arrival in Abuja on Tuesday, by  one of the national team sponsors, MTN, and followed by the Federal Government (FG).

Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, Ola Aina, Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman, Kenneth Omeruo, Joe Aribo, and Williams Trost Ekong were at a welcome breakfast at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja as well as members of the coaching crew.

The team went on a six-match unbeaten run ahead of the final match with host, Cote D’Ivoire.

Jose Peseiro’s side also conceded two goals before their 2-1 loss to the Elephants in the final match.

Up next is the focus on the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and that of the next AFCON taking place in Morocco (2025).
