Arsenal hero Ian Wright was one of several football legends who watched Nigeria clinch an exciting 1-0 win over hosts Cote d’Ivoire in Abidjan on Thursday.
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is not just the most prestigious football tournament on the continent but it’s also watched and followed across the globe as fans of clubs abroad tend to support their players.
The two powerhouses faced off at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, while Wright, followed the actions live on TV as others from different parts of the world.
Meanwhile, Chelsea icon Didier Drogba and ex-Paris Saint Germain playmaker Austin Okocha, among other football legends were all inside the Stadium in Abidjan to see Nigeria claim their first-ever win on Ivorian soil.
The 60,000-capacity stadium is the largest in Ivory Coast and is reputed to be one of the most modern stadiums in Africa.
However, Wright who was one of Arsenal’s greatest goalscorers of all time, was not impressed by the playing surface of the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
“The state of this pitch in the Ivory Coast vs Nigeria game!!! Ridiculous #AFCON23,” the Arsenal legend wrote.
