Awaziem scores first career brace as Konyaspor beat Genclerbirligi

Chidozie Awaziem scored twice to claim the first brace of his career as Konyaspor secured a 2-0 victory over Genclerbirligi in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
The Super Eagles centre-back broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute before adding a second goal 11 minutes into the second half. His goals settled the match and earned Konyaspor all three points at the MEDAS Konya Buyuksehir Stadium.
Awaziem said the result was built on a strong team performance and praised his team-mates for their contribution to the win.
“First of all, I congratulate my team for their performance. Everyone gave their all to win the three points. I am very happy with the performance of my teammates,” he said, as quoted by Pusulahaber.
The former Nantes defender also made clear that his two goals were the product of the collective effort, rather than an individual achievement. He said the support and work of his team-mates had played an important part in helping him complete the first brace of his career.
Awaziem was also pleased with his own display after scoring both of Konyaspor’s goals.
“Everyone gave their all. I scored two goals, but I scored those two goals thanks to my teammates. I am also proud of my own performance,” he said.
The result gave Konyaspor a 2-0 win, with Awaziem’s goals proving decisive after he scored shortly before half-time and then extended the advantage in the 56th minute.
His brace takes his total to two goals in seven Turkish Super Lig appearances for Konyaspor this season.
