Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia rules out Cucurella-style tattoo after Champions League triumph
Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia says he has no plans to copy Marc Cucurella by getting a tattoo if his side win the Champions League, insisting he does not currently have any tattoos and is not considering one.
Garcia was speaking to Spanish newspaper Sport about the possibility of Barcelona supporters asking him to mark a major success with a permanent tribute, as Cucurella did with Spain manager Luis de la Fuente.
“Barcelona fans might ask you to get a Flick tattoo if you win the Champions League, like Cucurella did with De la Fuente? Yes, I know about that. But no, I have to say that I am not planning to do that at the moment,” said Garcia.
The goalkeeper added: “I do not have tattoos and I am not thinking about getting one. If we win the Champions League, we will have to think of something else.”
Garcia’s comments came while discussing the different experiences of players who are selected for a squad but do not take part on the pitch. He said he had not played in any of Spain’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, but argued that unused substitutes remain just as much a part of the achievement as those who start.
“I think that sometimes you suffer more on the bench than the person who is out on the pitch, and you feel that you are involved to the same extent and are a champion just like everyone else,” Garcia told Sport.
The Barcelona goalkeeper was also asked about Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid. Garcia said the transfer had not come as a surprise to Spain’s players because individuals ultimately have to make decisions based on what they believe is best for their careers and futures.
“Were you surprised in the national team camp by the news that Cucurella was moving to Real Madrid? No, because in the end everyone decides what is best for them and for their future,” Garcia said.
“Honestly, I think it is a good move for him. When it happened, he was subjected to some joking, but in the end we were happy for him.”
Garcia therefore rejected the idea of following Cucurella’s example with a tattoo dedicated to manager Hansi Flick, even in the event of winning European football’s most prestigious club competition. His position, for now, is straightforward: he has no tattoos, does not intend to get one and would look for another way to celebrate if Barcelona lift the Champions League trophy.
