CAF orders Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa final to be completed in Cairo

The disputed WAFU-B final between Nigeria’s Edo Queens and Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa will be completed on October 29, 2026, after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruled that the remaining 30 minutes must be played.
The match ended 2-2 after regulation time, with Edo Queens initially declared champions after winning the penalty shootout 4-1.
Ampem FC subsequently submitted a petition to CAF, claiming the officials had incorrectly taken the game straight to penalties without first playing extra time.
The Ghanaian club argued that the competition regulations required 30 minutes of extra time when the scores were level. Penalty kicks, it said, should only have been used if the match remained undecided after extra time.
CAF accepted the petition and directed that the outstanding period be played at a neutral venue in Cairo, Egypt. The additional 30 minutes is scheduled for October 29.
Edo Queens have accepted the ruling and confirmed that they will travel to Cairo on Monday, October 26, 2026.
In a statement issued by the club’s media department and made available to Completesports.com, Edo Queens said CAF’s decision was not the outcome they had wanted.
The club said, however, that it had consulted its board, the Edo State Government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) before agreeing to comply with the ruling.
Edo Queens added that their decision was guided by sporting fairness and a desire to settle the final on the field rather than through the appeal process.
“Our mission remains unchanged to fight, to win and to secure our place in the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the club stated.
The Nigerian side also recognised the frustration felt by its supporters, saying it shared their wish for the dispute to be resolved through football.
“We have chosen to move forward with courage, discipline and resilience,” the statement added.
Edo Queens thanked their supporters and the media for their backing during the appeal process.
The club said its players and technical crew remain focused on the task ahead and are prepared to represent Edo State and Nigeria with pride in Egypt.
The final’s outcome will determine which side secures its place in the CAF Women’s Champions League after the original contest failed to produce a winner during normal time and was followed by a penalty shootout that has since been set aside by CAF’s ruling.
