Changchun Yatai Suffers Defeat in Chinese FA Cup as Odion Ighalo Remains Absent
Changchun Yatai, the Chinese Super League team led by Nigerian international Odion Ighalo, faced a heartbreaking loss in the Chinese FA Cup on Tuesday. The team was defeated 4-3 on penalties by Division 2 League side Sichuan Jiuniu, after a 1-1 draw during regulation time. This disheartening result has left fans and players alike disappointed.
Sichuan Jiuniu took the lead just one minute before half-time, courtesy of an own goal from Xiao Yufeng. However, Changchun Yatai’s Tiancheng Tan managed to restore parity, keeping the hopes of his team alive. Despite this valiant effort, the team was unable to secure victory.
Surprisingly, Odion Ighalo, who exhibited an impressive performance in the Chinese Super League match against Guizhou Hengfeng last Saturday, was conspicuously absent from the matchday squad. The 28-year-old striker, who has already netted four goals in seven CSL games this season, was sorely missed by his team during this crucial cup tie.
However, fans need not worry, as Ighalo is expected to make a swift return to action for Changchun Yatai in their upcoming league game against Shanghai SIPG on Sunday. His presence on the field will undoubtedly be a boost for the team, as they strive to improve their current 10th place position in the table, with eight points from seven games.
Changchun Yatai’s exit from the Chinese FA Cup is a setback for the team, but the players remain determined to bounce back and achieve success in their upcoming league fixtures. As the season progresses, fans eagerly await the return of Odion Ighalo, hoping that his exceptional goal-scoring abilities will help propel the team to victory.
