Nigeria midfielder, Esther Onyenezide’s goal was not enough to win the Athena Cup in Israel for Hapoel Jerusalem as Hapoel Petah Tikva claimed a 2-1 triumph.
A brace from Roni Levi ensured that Petah Tivka emerged as Cup winners.
She scored the first goal in the 39th minute and made it 2-0 in the 45th minute.
Onyenezide reduced the deficit with five minutes remaining on the clock as Hapoel Jerusalem held on to the slim win.
The former Nigeria youth International, Onyenezide has been impressive since joining the Israeli side from FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
The midfielder’s role was pivotal in ensuring that Hapoel Katamon reached the Athena Cup final.
The next focus for Onyenezide and her teammate is the league in a bid to jostle for the title and chance to qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
