By Saheed Afolabi
Newly appointed Rivers United manager, George Finidi, has outlined his ambitious goals for the club following his departure from the role of head coach of the Super Eagles after just two games in charge.
Finidi, an ex-international, has joined the Pride of Rivers with a clear mission to restore the club to the pinnacle of Nigerian football. In a statement, he expressed his excitement about the new chapter in his career and his commitment to the club’s vision.
“I think it’s a new chapter for me, and I like the challenge. I want to help the club grow and become a dominant force in Nigerian and African football,” Finidi was quoted by Sports Boom.
The former Ajax winger emphasized that Rivers United’s goals and vision align perfectly with his own ambitions, which he believes will drive success and growth for the team.
“I’m happy with the project the club is looking at, and I see a lot of potential for growth and success. The vision of the club aligns with my own ambitions, and I believe we can achieve great things together,” he added.
Finidi also revealed his plans to implement an attractive, attacking style of football that will not only bring success but also excite the fans in Port Harcourt.
“I’m excited about the project ahead. We have a talented squad, and I believe we can achieve great things together. My philosophy is to play attractive, attacking football that will excite the fans and bring success to the club.”
Since taking charge, Finidi has already led Rivers United to the semifinals of the ValueJet Cup in Ikenne, where they narrowly lost 3-2 to NPFL newcomers, Ikorodu City. The early performance under his leadership hints at a promising future for the Pride of Rivers.
