Karim Adeyemi: Barcelona complete €29m deal for Borussia Dortmund forward

Spanish champions Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi on a five-year contract running until 2031 in a deal worth up to €29m.

The 24-year-old, nicknamed Nigeria’s “fufu man”, leaves the Bundesliga after four seasons in Germany to become Barcelona’s second arrival of the summer.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona will pay an initial €22m to Dortmund, with a further €7m in performance-related add-ons written into the agreement. The German club have also secured a sell-on clause and will receive a percentage of any future transfer fee if Adeyemi moves on from the Camp Nou.

Adeyemi joins an attacking line that already includes Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Ferran Torres, as Barcelona look to defend their La Liga title and launch another push for the UEFA Champions League.

From Dortmund mainstay to Barcelona arrival

Adeyemi moved to Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 and became a regular in the first team. Over his time with the club, he made 146 appearances and scored 36 goals in all competitions.

He was part of the Dortmund side that reached the UEFA Champions League final in the 2023-24 season, a campaign that underlined his impact at the highest level of European football.

The forward’s switch to Spain ends a successful chapter in the Bundesliga and opens a new phase of his career in La Liga under Hansi Flick.

Role under Hansi Flick

Adeyemi is expected to bring additional speed and flexibility to Flick’s forward line. Comfortable operating across the front three, he offers Barcelona another option in wide or central attacking roles as they prepare for the new campaign.

His arrival follows the signing of Anthony Gordon earlier in the summer, with both deals completed as Barcelona strengthen ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup cycle and a demanding domestic and European schedule.

International allegiance and Nigerian roots

Although he is eligible to play for Nigeria through his family background, Adeyemi chose to represent Germany at international level and has since become part of the German national team set-up.

His move means he becomes the latest player of Nigerian descent to wear Barcelona’s colours, adding to the club’s long history of drawing talent from diverse footballing backgrounds.

The transfer, now formally finalised by all parties, closes Adeyemi’s four-year spell in German football and confirms his status as a key component of Barcelona’s plans for the coming seasons.
