Nottingham Forest track Nigeria Under-20 striker Abdoulaye Agbejoye

Nottingham Forest are monitoring Nigeria Under-20 striker Abdoulaye Agbejoye after his impressive domestic season and decisive penalty for the Flying Eagles against Ivory Coast.

The Premier League club are understood to be considering a move for the 18-year-old during the current summer transfer window, according to The Sun UK.

Agbejoye has emerged as one of the most highly rated young forwards in Nigeria after a prolific campaign in the country’s domestic football scene. He scored 19 goals in 20 league appearances in the Nigeria Youth League Cup, attracting attention from clubs in both England and Germany.

Forest are among the teams showing the strongest interest in the teenager. The club have reportedly sent scouts to Nigeria on several occasions to assess his performances and follow his development.

German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are also believed to be tracking Agbejoye, having monitored his progress closely in recent months. However, Nottingham Forest are thought to be in pole position as they attempt to secure the striker ahead of their European rivals.

The Premier League club reportedly see Agbejoye as a long-term investment rather than an immediate first-team signing. They believe his performances, potential and attacking attributes could allow him to develop into a top-level striker.

Forest are also understood to be using their Nigerian connections as part of their efforts to persuade the youngster to join them. Super Eagles players Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina are both at the club, and their presence could help Nottingham Forest make a stronger case to Agbejoye.

The striker’s progress has already earned recognition at international level. His performances for his domestic side led to an invitation to join Nigeria’s U-20 national team, known as the Flying Eagles.

Agbejoye is currently representing Nigeria at the WAFU B U-20 Championship in Ivory Coast, where he played a key role in the semi-final against the host nation.

He started the match on the bench but was introduced during the contest before taking responsibility in the penalty shootout. After the game finished 2-2 following regulation and extra time, Nigeria won 4-3 on penalties, with Agbejoye calmly converting the decisive spot-kick.

That contribution has further increased interest in the young forward as clubs continue to assess his potential. Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen are among the teams reported to be watching him, while other Premier League clubs are also said to have taken notice of his performances.

Forest’s interest comes as the club look to identify emerging talent who can be developed over the longer term. Agbejoye’s goal-scoring record, his progress with the Flying Eagles and his display under pressure against Ivory Coast have strengthened his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most promising young strikers.
