By Saheed Afolabi

Abia Warriors captain Augustine Njoku expressed his delight after his team secured a thrilling 3-1 victory against Plateau United in Umuahia, coming back from a goal down to clinch the win.

Njoku, who provided two assists and earned the Player of the Match (POTM) award, highlighted the team’s resilience and unity.

Reflecting on the performance, Njoku commended the coaching staff, particularly head coach Imama Amapakabo, for instilling a winning mentality in the squad.

“I feel great. It’s been a while since I last received such an award; it’s a privilege, not a right,” he remarked.

He acknowledged the technical crew’s efforts in fostering a cohesive playing style, stating, “I give all thanks to God Almighty and our coaches, who have worked hard to ensure we play with understanding rather than ‘guesswork’ football.”

Njoku noted that the focus on character and mentality, emphasized by Amapakabo before the match, was key to their success. “I must applaud my teammates for the character and attitude they displayed. It was impressive, and I commend all of them. Winning the Man of the Match award reflects the entire team’s efforts.”

As Abia Warriors look to build on this momentum, they are set to face Bendel Insurance in their next match on Saturday, October 26.
