FC Cincinnati midfielder Obinna Nwobodo has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club through the 2027 season, with a club option for 2028, the Major League Soccer (MLS) side announced on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Nigerian has been a key figure in FC Cincinnati’s midfield since his arrival in April 2022.

Known for his work rate and consistency, Nwobodo has made 117 appearances for the club—109 of them starts—more than for any other team in his professional career.

“Since arriving three years ago, Obi has been a fundamental part of our success,” said FC Cincinnati General Manager Chris Albright.

“He’s relentless in how he approaches the game, on and off the field, and he’s an exceptional teammate and leader. We’re delighted to have Obi and his family stay in Cincinnati.”

Nwobodo has registered two goals and 11 assists across all competitions, with both goals coming as match-winners. In 2023, he led the league in tackles with 62, highlighting his defensive strength and influence in midfield.

The extension underscores FC Cincinnati’s confidence in the midfielder’s continued impact as the club builds on recent success in MLS.

Nwobodo’s consistent performances and leadership have made him a fan favorite in Cincinnati, and the new deal ensures he remains a central figure in the club’s long-term plans.
