Victor Osimhen breaks Galatasaray’s 24-year-old record

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has etched his name into Galatasaray’s history books, surpassing a long-standing club record held by Brazilian legend Mario Jardel.

The Nigerian striker achieved the feat on Wednesday evening, becoming the highest-scoring foreign player in a single season in Galatasaray’s 119-year history.

Osimhen, who is currently on loan from Napoli, marked this historic milestone during Galatasaray’s commanding 3-0 win over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final.

The 26-year-old forward scored twice in the final, propelling his team to victory and securing the coveted trophy.

With these two goals, Osimhen surpassed Jardel’s previous record of 34 goals scored for Galatasaray in the 2003/04 season.

The Nigerian’s remarkable tally for the 2024/25 campaign now stands at 35 goals, which includes 24 goals in the Turkish Super Lig, six in the UEFA Europa League, and five in the Turkish Cup.

In addition to this record, Osimhen became the first foreign player in Galatasaray’s history to score a brace in a Turkish Cup final, further cementing his place as a club legend.

His goal-scoring feats have made him a fan favorite and a key contributor to Galatasaray’s successes this season.

This achievement highlights not only Osimhen’s clinical finishing ability but also his invaluable impact on the team, as he continues to lead Galatasaray towards potential domestic glory.

With the Turkish Super Lig title within reach, Osimhen’s contributions have been instrumental in the club’s pursuit of a historic double.
