NWFL announces prize monies for league winners, others

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) announced on Thursday a total prize fund of ₦24.5 million for the current 2025 NWFL Premiership Super 6, enhancing the financial rewards for all six participating teams.
The breakdown indicates that the champions will receive ₦10 million, consistent with the previous two editions, while the runners-up will earn ₦6 million and the third-place team will take home ₦4 million, both reflecting a ₦1 million increase from the last season.
Notably, the bottom three teams will each be awarded ₦1.5 million, up from ₦500,000 last season, highlighting the league’s dedication to financially supporting all teams.
NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi emphasized that this revised prize structure is a vital component of the league’s ongoing mission to professionalize women’s football in Nigeria.
“This is a deliberate step to ensure that all clubs leave the NWFL Premiership Super 6 with something tangible,” Obi stated.
“By increasing the financial rewards, particularly for the bottom three, we are reinforcing our commitment to professionalizing the women’s game and encouraging greater investment at the club level.”
In addition to the prize money, the champions will also gain Nigeria’s exclusive spot in the WAFU regional qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League—Africa’s premier club competition—and may qualify for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Championship next year if they reach the final.
As the 2025 edition concludes on Saturday, May 17, with Matchday 5, an unprecedented four clubs—Bayelsa Queens, defending champions Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and newcomers Remo Stars Ladies—are still in contention.
It is noteworthy that the last four editions of the Super 6 finals have been claimed by four different clubs, heightening the excitement over which team will emerge as the new champions in this fiercely competitive season. The ongoing championship among the six clubs is being
