Ohale: ‘Super Falcons Ready for Egypt Test, Determined to Secure WAFCON Quarter-Final Spot’
Nigeria defender Osinachi Ohale has expressed confidence that Super Falcons is fully prepared for its crucial Group B clash against Egypt, insisting the team has learned from its early mistakes and is determined to continue improving.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Ohale acknowledged the importance of the encounter, describing it as a must-win fixture as the nine-time African champions chase a place in the quarter-finals.
The experienced defender also responded to concerns over communication within Nigeria’s backline following criticism after the team’s opening match. She maintained that communication has always been a collective responsibility and said the players have worked hard to address the issues.
“We always communicate, we always talk to ourselves. Communication is not left for one person; it’s a team thing. We tried to correct our mistakes from the first game and you could see that in our last game against Zambia. We’ll continue to build from there,” she said.
Addressing criticism from outside the camp, Ohale stressed that the squad remains united and focused on achieving success for Nigeria.
“We are all professionals and we know what is expected of us. We are a family. When one is down, everyone tries to bring that person up.”
The veteran centre-back also reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the national team, saying her passion for wearing the green and white remains as strong as ever as she aims to win another Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
“It’s still the same passion and the same love for the game. We keep pushing and make sure we take the sixth one for myself and the 11th one for the country,” Ohale added.
Nigeria heads into the decisive fixture level on three points with Zambia in Group B, while Malawi lead the standings with six points. Egypt remain without a point. The Super Falcons will face Egypt at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat at 9 p.m., while Malawi take on Zambia, with the two quarter-final qualification spots still up for grabs.
