Ola Aina Reflects on Loan Stint at Hull City as Chelsea Return Looms

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina is poised to conclude his loan spell with Championship side Hull City after their final game against Brentford, marking the end of a season-long stint. As he anticipates his return to Chelsea, Aina has taken stock of the valuable experience gained during his tenure with The Tigers.

“Chelsea is a big club, and they have a lot more to focus on than just me,” emphasized the 21-year-old. “For me personally, I’m working hard towards the dream of playing for Chelsea because they are the club that I have always supported, long before I was scouted by them.”

Reflecting on his time at Hull City, Aina expressed gratitude for the growth and development he experienced both on and off the field. “It’s been my first loan, and it has been enjoyable, even though it has been a difficult season at times,” he shared. “I’ve certainly enjoyed playing regular first-team football and being part of the squad here.”

The Nigerian international highlighted the learning curve during the season, emphasizing the shift from U23s football to the demands of the Championship. “In the early stages of the season, I was probably doing things in the wrong areas of the pitch. As the season has gone on, I’ve realized that sometimes it’s not a bad thing to just put your foot through the ball and clear it.”

Aina acknowledged the maturation process during his time away from Stamford Bridge, noting, “Being away from home, away from my parents and my siblings, has probably been good for me in terms of maturing, and it has all been a part of this experience here.”

As Aina anticipates his return to Chelsea, he also looks forward to being part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, having made his international debut against Zambia last year.
