Nigerian players Aminu Umar and Raheem Lawal encountered a disheartening conclusion to their campaign as Osmanlispor suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Akhisarspor in their final fixture of the Turkish Super Lig season, leading to the club’s relegation into the Turkish Lig 1, as reported by Completesportsnigeria.com.
The defeat sealed Osmanlispor’s fate, marking their descent into the Turkish second-tier division after they failed to secure a vital victory against Akhisarspor. Notably, neither Umar nor Lawal featured in Osmanlispor’s squad for the crucial encounter.
Facing the 16th position with 33 points in the 18-team league table, Osmanlispor’s slim hopes of survival required a significant win against Akhisarspor and a simultaneous heavy defeat for Konyaspor, currently positioned 15th with 36 points, against Fenerbahce on Saturday.
Hasan Ali Adiguzel initiated the scoring for Akhisarspor in the 32nd minute, met by a swift response as Furkan Ozcal netted the equalizer for Osmanlispor just before half-time at the 45-minute mark. However, in the final moments of the game, Mugdat Celik’s strike in the 90th minute sealed Akhisarspor’s triumph.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi was notably absent from Trabzonspor’s lineup as they concluded their season with an emphatic 3-0 home victory over Karabukspor. The result secured Trabzonspor’s fifth-place finish in the league standings with 55 points, narrowly missing out on the UEFA Europa League spot claimed by Besiktas in fourth position with 68 points.
In another Turkish Super Lig fixture on Friday, Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Azubuike Okechukwu featured for Yeni Malatyaspor as they concluded their season with a spirited 3-2 home win against Kayserispor. Malatyaspor concluded their campaign in the 10th position with 43 points.
