The Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi, believes the Super Eagles would have qualified for the FIFA World Cup if current head coach Eric Chelle had been in charge from the start of the qualifying campaign.
Nigeria missed out on a place at the Mundial after losing to DR Congo in the qualification playoffs.
Speaking with Osasu Obayiuwana, Sanusi admitted that instability within the team’s technical crew contributed significantly to the disappointing campaign.
“If the type of results we had from the team under Eric Chelle towards the end of the World Cup qualifying campaign were the results we had throughout the 10 games, had he taken charge from the beginning, I think Nigeria would have qualified with games to spare,” Sanusi said.
The Super Eagles endured a difficult qualification series marked by inconsistent performances and several coaching changes before Chelle was eventually appointed.
