Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi is now without a substantive manager following Nottingham Forest’s sacking of their head coach, Steve Cooper, after a win in 13 matches.
Cooper played a pivotal role in Forest’s remarkable journey back to the Premier League, leaving an indelible mark on the club’s history.
Following their promotion to the Nigerian top-flight, Cooper collaborated with club owner Angelos Marinakis in recruiting 44 players, including Awoniyi, across three transfer windows.
Awoniyi was brought to Nottingham Forest by Cooper from Union Berlin during the 2022 summer transfer window.
The Super Eagles star showed promise, registering 15 goals and providing three assists in 41 appearances under the manager.
The 26-year-old only recently identified Cooper as one of the most influential coaches in his career, and together through the challenges of top-flight football, they earned a surprise stay in the top division at his first try with the club.
However, Forest have decided to relieve Cooper of his duties after five defeats and a draw from their past six matches
The English team slipped to 17th in the table, sitting five points above the relegation zone.
The club aims to turn its fortunes around with a new leadership approach and rejuvenate its performance in the league.
