Sunderland teenager Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for October 26 after a prolific run of form.

The 19-year-old scored three goals in Premier League 2 during the month and was included in the senior squad for matches against Torreense, Lech Poznan and Brentford, although he did not come off the bench in any of those games.

Samuel-Ogunsuyi’s first goals of the month came in Sunderland’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal on 10 October, when he scored twice. He then found the net again 16 days later in a 3-2 defeat by Newcastle United.

Born in Bradford, the forward is eligible to play international football for England, Nigeria or Belgium.

The other nominees are Nottingham Forest’s Fuad Smith, Norwich City’s Luke Towler, Tottenham Hotspur’s Tyrese Hall, Crystal Palace’s Adler Nascimento, AFC Bournemouth’s George Chubindze and Charlie Stevens, and Derby County’s Charlie Smith.

The shortlist was chosen by the Premier League Football Development Panel, which will also select the winner.

Samuel-Ogunsuyi is regarded as one of the leading attacking prospects in Sunderland’s academy. He joined the club at the age of 10 and progressed through the youth system before making his first-team debut in an Emirates FA Cup tie against Stoke City.
