Tolu Arokodare optimistic about Super Eagles call-up despite recent snub

By Saheed Afolabi

KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare remains confident that he will receive a call-up to the Nigerian national team despite being overlooked for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) double-header qualifiers against Libya.

The 23-year-old forward has been in outstanding form in the Belgian Pro League, scoring six goals in just 10 matches this season.

Although he hasn’t been contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the recent qualifiers, Arokodare is determined to stay focused on his performance and future prospects.

“We have a lot of attacking talent in the Super Eagles, and the entire squad is full of potential,” Arokodare told Tribal Football.

“I haven’t been contacted by the NFF yet, but I believe if I keep performing well and doing the right things, the call-up will come. If I haven’t been called up yet, I think it just isn’t my time. The players who have been called up before me have worked hard to earn their spots, and they deserve it. I just need to be patient and keep working harder.”

Arokodare, who has also featured for Nigeria at youth levels, expressed his belief that consistency in his performances will eventually get him the recognition he seeks.

Reflecting on his current form in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, he emphasized the competitiveness of the league, which has pushed him to excel.

“I wouldn’t say this is the best I’ve ever played, but it is certainly the best I’ve played at this level,” he explained. “I’ve had seasons like this in the past, where I played a lot, but Belgium is a higher level and more competitive. It brings out the best in me.”

Arokodare’s steady rise in Belgium continues to attract attention, and many expect him to be a key figure for Nigeria in the near future. For now, the forward remains focused on improving his game and patiently awaiting his opportunity with the Super Eagles.
