Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan denies Mohamed Salah agreement

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has rejected reports that the Turkish club are close to signing Mohamed Salah, saying there is currently no agreement with the Egypt captain.
Salah’s future has been the subject of widespread speculation during the summer transfer window, with his name linked to several clubs, particularly in the Turkish Super Lig. Those reports intensified after claims that the former Liverpool forward was nearing a move to Trabzonspor.
However, Dogan said the club had not reached an agreement with Salah and insisted he had never claimed negotiations were still continuing.
“As I said before, there is currently no agreement with Salah. I never said that negotiations are still ongoing. Until this moment, there is no such agreement,” Dogan said in comments reported by Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.
Salah recently became a free agent after reaching an agreement with Liverpool to end his contract one year before it was due to expire. He has yet to agree a deal with a new club since leaving Anfield, leaving uncertainty over the next stage of his career.
The Trabzonspor president’s comments came only a few days after Besiktas football director Onder Ozen said his club had temporarily suspended its efforts to sign Salah.
Ozen said negotiations with the former Liverpool striker had reached an impasse, with financial demands proving the main obstacle. He explained that Besiktas had held several rounds of talks with Salah but that the discussions became increasingly complicated when the financial terms of a potential transfer were considered.
The Turkish club official also confirmed that Besiktas would not improve its current offer. At the same time, he said Salah’s representatives were holding discussions with other clubs interested in signing the player.
There had been further confusion over Trabzonspor’s position after reports suggested that other figures at the club were involved in the deal. But board member and treasurer Dervis Koz stressed that Dogan has sole authority over transfer matters.
“Ertugrul Dogan is the only person authorised in all transfer matters at the club. His statements on this issue are clear, and if you refer to the president’s comments, you will find the answer you are looking for,” Koz told Reuters.
Salah is continuing to consider the options available to him before deciding on his next club. He has chosen to delay a final decision until after Egypt’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.
The Egypt captain led the Pharaohs to the last 16 of that competition, after which he is expected to assess the offers made to him and choose between the clubs interested in securing his services.
For now, Dogan’s comments appear to rule out any agreement between Salah and Trabzonspor, despite the speculation linking the player with a move to the Turkish club.
