U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier: Time and where to watch Nigeria vs Algeria

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will host Algeria in the first leg of the final round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers this Saturday.

The match is scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, and will be broadcast live on NFF TV.

The Flamingos head into the tie in strong form, having defeated South Africa’s Bantwana 3–1 in Pretoria before sealing qualification with a 2–0 win in the second leg in Ikenne—securing a 5–1 aggregate victory.

Algeria reached the final qualification round after overcoming a 2–1 first-leg deficit to Botswana by winning 4–0 in the return fixture.

Nigeria, who have qualified for every edition of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup except in 2018, will look to extend their strong qualification record. The expanded 24-team format of the 2024 tournament guarantees five African slots, with host nation Morocco already assured of a place.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ugandan referee Shamirah Nabadda to officiate Saturday’s match. She will be assisted by Fides Bangurambona of Burundi (Assistant Referee 1), and fellow Ugandans Immaculate Ongiera (Assistant Referee 2) and Diana Murungi (Fourth Official).

Match officials are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Thursday, including the CAF Match Commissioner Naa Odofoley Nortey of Ghana and referee assessor Deidre Carmill Zealand from South Africa.

The team with the highest aggregate score over the two legs will qualify for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals later this year.
