In the thrilling finale of the inaugural round of the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League, the clash between two powerhouse teams, Kebbi BSC and Kada BSC, lived up to its billing.

Both sides, previous champions in their own right, showcased their prowess as they battled to a deadlock, ending regular time in a gripping 2-2 draw.

As tensions soared, the match extended into extra time, where Kebbi Fishers and Kada BSC continued to trade blows. Goals from Fuad Badmus and the leadership of captain Ekene Obi had initially given Kebbi BSC a commanding two-goal advantage.

However, the resilience of Tanko Emmanuel and Victor Tale, who notably scored against his own brother, Godwin Tale, propelled Kada BSC back into contention, ultimately leading to a nail-biting penalty shootout.

Amidst the fervent support of a packed stadium at the Filin Sukuwa pitch, despite adverse weather conditions, Kebbi Fishers managed to secure a hard-fought 5-4 victory in the penalty shootout, reaffirming their status as reigning champions of the league.

Meanwhile, debutant Jigawa Golden Stars BSC continued to make waves, clinching their second win of the campaign with a convincing 5-2 triumph over Kebbi United BSC.

Notably, Idowu Akintunde, who had previously faced adversity with own goals, showcased remarkable resilience by converting three goals to propel his team to victory, supported by contributions from Mustapha Umar and Bagudu Hamza.

In another captivating match, Anambra Warriors BSC narrowly edged out Nmanko Patigi BSC in a thrilling 5-4 encounter, fueled by Chinweze Gabriel’s hat-trick and goals from Nwo King Emeka and Clement Ekujumi.

With the conclusion of the first round, Kebbi BSC and Kada BSC emerged as frontrunners, each tallying 10 points atop the leaderboard, closely pursued by Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors with 9 points.

As attention turns to the upcoming second round in Nnewi, Anambra State, the competition intensifies, with only the top four teams securing coveted berths in the Super Four showdown in Kaduna.
