The head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, Jose Peseiro is hopeful Victor Osimhen can help the team win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles have won the continental crown thrice and will hope to clinch their fourth accolade this year.

Osimhen was the top goal scorer in the Italian top flight last season as his side won the Serie A title as he finished the AFCON Qualifiers as the top goal scorer with 10 goals before winning the 2023 Africa Player of the Year award.

Peseiro at a dinner organised to celebrate Osimhen’s coronation as Africa’s best player in Abu Dhabi on Friday night, expresses his confidence in Osimhen, hoping he can secure the tournament’s top scorer award as well.

“From our team, he (Osimhen) was the highest goal scorer during the qualifiers,” Peseiro said.

“Of course, his teammates helped him to achieve that. I hope and wish he wins the highest goal scorer and help us win the tournament,” he added.

The former Lille forward will lead the team’s attack when they face Equatorial Guinea, Cote D’Ivoire, and Guinea Bissau in Group A at AFCON 2023.
