Ex-Nigeria U20 star extends red-hot European run with third straight Conference League goal

Former Nigeria U-20 international Clinton Jephta continued his remarkable rise in European football after scoring in a third consecutive UEFA Conference League qualifying match to inspire Finnish side Inter Turku to a historic victory over Turkish outfit İstanbul Başakşehir.

The 19-year-old forward was once again on target as Inter Turku sealed a memorable 2-0 victory on Thursday night, completing a 3-1 aggregate triumph to reach the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.

The result etched Inter Turku’s name into the history books, making them the first Finnish club to eliminate a Turkish top-flight side in European competition, while also reaching the third qualifying round of a UEFA club competition for the first time.

Jephta has emerged as the standout performer of Inter’s European campaign, scoring in each of the club’s last three Conference League qualifying matches.

The Nigerian announced himself in the competition on July 16, when he struck an 87th-minute winner in Inter Turku’s dramatic 2-1 victory over FK Sarajevo.

He maintained his scoring streak six days later by opening the scoring after just 15 minutes in the 1-1 first-leg draw against İstanbul Başakşehir in the second qualifying round.

The former Flying Eagles attacker completed his hat-trick of consecutive goals by doubling Inter Turku’s advantage early in the second half of Thursday’s decisive second-leg victory, helping the Finnish side secure one of the biggest results in the club’s history.

Jephta’s rapid development has been one of the success stories of the Finnish season. After previous trials with Norwegian side Strømsgodset and Finnish giants HJK Helsinki, he initially joined Inter Turku on loan before the club made the move permanent earlier this summer.

His impressive performances earned him the Veikkausliiga Player of the Month award for May 2026, and his consistent displays have reportedly attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.

With three goals in as many UEFA Conference League qualifiers and growing attention from clubs beyond Finland, Jephta is increasingly demonstrating why he is regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest emerging talents on the European stage.
