Super Falcons Defender Oluwatosin Demehin Joins Benfica Until 2029

Nigeria defender Oluwatosin Demehin has completed a move to Portuguese giants Benfica, signing a contract that will keep her at the club until 2029.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international becomes the latest addition to Benfica Women’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Demehin joins the six-time Portuguese champions after spending two seasons with Turkish side Galatasaray, whom she joined in 2024.

The central defender began her senior career in Nigeria with Sunshine Queens before moving to Rivers Angels. Her impressive performances in Port Harcourt earned her a move to Europe in 2022, when she joined French club Stade de Reims.

Demehin subsequently continued her career in Turkey before making the switch to Benfica.

Speaking to BTV, the Nigerian international explained her decision to join the Portuguese club.

“Benfica is the best club in Portugal and one of the best clubs in the world. Therefore, I know that being here, I can improve my performance,” she said.

Demehin also revealed that she consulted fellow Super Falcons international Christy Ucheibe before completing the move.

“Before coming here, I spoke with her during the national team training camp. She told me many nice things about the club,” she revealed.

Describing herself as a player, the centre-back highlighted her work ethic and mentality.

“I would describe myself as hardworking, disciplined, and determined,” she said.

Demehin has established herself as an important member of the Nigerian national team and has featured on some of the biggest stages in international football.

She represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games before helping the Super Falcons win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco, with the triumph taking place in 2025.

Now beginning a new chapter in Lisbon, Demehin said she is eager to learn more about Benfica’s rich history and plans to visit the club’s museum.

“I know the Club has a lot of history. I would very much like to visit the Museum to learn about the Club’s history,” she said.

The new Benfica No. 4 has already set her sights on helping the team achieve its ambitions during the 2026/27 campaign.

“My goal is to contribute to the team’s success and achieve great things,” Demehin stated.

She also sent a message to Benfica supporters, promising to give her best for the club.

“Benfica supporters can expect the best from me and my best performance,” she added.
