Afcon 2023: Apologetic Troost-Ekong appeals for Nigerians support for Super Eagles
By Wale Mustapha
Vice captain of Nigeria, William Troost-Ekong has appealed to Nigerians not to judge them by their performance against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday assuring that the Super Eagles will come good in subsequent games..
The Super Eagles started their campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, after Victor Osimhen’s header from Ademola Lookman’s cross canceled out a goal from Ivan Salvador for the Nzalang Nationale.
In quest to advance, Jose Peseiro’s side must now avoid defeat against hosts Cote d’Ivoire in their next game on Thursday and Troost-Ekong is fully aware of the need for his side to get the fans cheering them again.
“I just want to say thank you for the support for the guys that came out there,” the PAOK defender told media.
“Of course, we’re disappointed; we feel the same way as you guys, we wanted to win today, but I think we have to look at the positives.
“We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game, and will be very motivated Thursday. Don’t give up on us.”
Thursday’s encounter billed for the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan will kick-off at 5pm.
