Gbenga Ogunbote hints at possible exit as Shooting Stars technical adviser
By Wale Mustapha
Shooting Stars Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has hinted at a potential departure from the club following the expiration of his contract.
This announcement came after their final match of the season against Sporting Lagos.
The match, held at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday, saw Shooting Stars secure a 1-0 victory over Sporting Lagos. Despite the win, Ogunbote’s future with the club remains uncertain.
Ogunbote revealed that his contract expired at the end of the game, although there have been discussions about a possible extension.
“As I talk to you, my contract will expire at the end of the game against Sporting Lagos. They are talking about a contract extension, they are bringing on offers, but until we reach a conclusive agreement, the season is over for Shooting Stars,” he told the media.
The veteran tactician rejoined Shooting Stars for a second spell in 2022 and has had a successful run with the team. In the just-concluded season, Shooting Stars finished in fourth position on the NPFL table.
Ogunbote’s announcement has sparked speculation about his future with the club. While he has not ruled out the possibility of staying, he seems to be keeping his options open.
For now, Ogunbote remains tight-lipped about his next move, but fans of Shooting Stars will be watching with keen interest as the situation unfolds.
As the dust settles on the NPFL season, Shooting Stars will be looking to build on their fourth-place finish, with or without Ogunbote at the helm. Only time will tell what the future holds for the Oluyole Warriors.
