Esther Onyenezide continues goal scoring form to lift Hapoel Jerusalem to Athena Cup final

After scoring on her League debut in the Israeli women’s league, former FC Robo Queens player, Esther Onyenezide once again rose to the occasion for Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem in the Athena Women’s Cup.

The former Nigeria youth international was on target as Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem defeated Tel Aviv 2-0 in the semi-final on Thursday.

Ghana’s Doris Boaduwaa scored the first goal of the encounter for Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem.

Onyenezide sealed the win with the second goal of the game for the Israeli side which confirmed their place in the final.

They will meet the winner of the second semi-final match between Kiryat Gat and Petah Tivka.

Esther represented Nigeria in the 2022 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica.

21-year-old Onyenezide was selected by FIFA as the Player of the Match scoring twice during Nigeria’s 3-1 win against Canada in 2022.

She played for FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership before moving to Spanish women’s top flight to play for Madrid CFF with a 3-season deal in 2024, from where she switched to Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem.
