Igbajo United FC win Osun State FA Cup title over Osun United

Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Igbajo United Football Club emerged victorious in the 2025 Osun State FA Cup after a hard fought 1-0 win over fellow NNL outfit, Osun United FC on Sunday.

The highly anticipated final, held at the Lanre Leke Sports Complex, saw both teams battle fiercely, with the first half ending in a goalless draw.

However, in the 70th minute, Igbajo United’s striker, Mutiu Babalola, converted a crucial penalty to secure the win for his team.

Osun United FC launched several attacks in search of an equalizer, but Igbajo United’s defense held firm.

Igbajo United’s goalkeeper, Nurudeen Lateef delivered an outstanding performance, making crucial saves to deny Osun United any breakthrough.

After the match, Igbajo United’s head coach, Sule Isa Eroje, expressed his excitement and gratitude while receiving the championship trophy.

“I am highly excited and appreciate my players, assistants, and the management of this club for their efforts. We have worked tirelessly to improve our gameplay, and it paid off today,” Eroje said.

He also acknowledged the role of the Osun State Football Association, the media, and Osun United FC for putting up a strong contest.

The victory cemented the recent rise of Igbajo as they continue their quest to gain promotion to the top flight few season after moving from the third tier.

With this victory, Igbajo United FC has now secured a spot in the upcoming National President Cup, where they will represent Osun State on a bigger stage.

Beaten finalist, Osun United will also represent the State of the Living Spring at the 2024 President Federation Cup.
