FRSC, NFF Collaborate Ahead of International Youth Day to Promote Road Safety

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Capital Territory Command, is partnering with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ahead of the 2025 International Youth Day celebrations scheduled for August 12.

Led by newly appointed Corps Commander Felix Theman, the FRSC team met with NFF officials in Abuja to strategize on their joint involvement in the upcoming Youth Hangout initiative.

Commander Theman further emphasized football’s unifying power and its ability to inspire millions of Nigerian youth. He noted that several athletes have been affected by road accidents in the past, reinforcing the urgency of raising awareness and promoting safer practices on Nigerian roads.

“With the support of the Nigeria Football Federation, we aim to safeguard our community further and sustain this upward trajectory,” Theman stated during the meeting.

Welcoming the FRSC delegation, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (MON) commended the initiative and underscored the significance of partnerships that go beyond the football pitch.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Football Federation, I want to say that this engagement reinforces our dedication to fostering strategic partnerships that enhance the well-being of the football community and the larger society,” Sanusi said.

“Together, we can leverage the passion and influence of football to help reduce road traffic crashes, which remain a leading cause of death among young people in the country.”

The program aims to provide road safety education for young Nigerians while enhancing traffic management within the FCT.

Both the FRSC and NFF reaffirmed their commitment to long-term collaboration aimed at road safety advocacy, youth engagement, and nationwide public awareness campaigns.
