Sadiq Umar, Bello El-Rufai acquire Rancher Bees, pledge revival of iconic Kaduna club

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigeria forward and Real Sociedad striker Sadiq Umar, in partnership with Hon. Bello El-Rufai, member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North, has officially acquired Rancher Bees FC — one of Nigeria’s most storied football clubs.

The Kaduna-based club, once a dominant force in Nigerian football and renowned for producing top international talent, is set to compete in the Nigeria National League (NNL) in the upcoming season under new leadership.

Speaking on the acquisition, Umar highlighted his personal connection to the club and the motivation behind the takeover.

“Hon. Bello and I want to return the club to its old glory days,” he said. “Growing up, I watched Rancher Bees of Kaduna, a club that produced countless players. It’s a thing of pride and joy for us to now be the bona fide owners.”

The new owners have outlined ambitious plans for the club’s revival, including the development of a professional squad and a full-fledged academy to nurture young talent.

“Our target is to secure promotion to the NPFL,” Umar added. “I’m elated by the feedback from Rancher Bees supporters and the people of Kaduna. We will bring back the memories of the club and return the fans to the stadium.”

The acquisition signals a bold new chapter for Rancher Bees FC, with strong backing from the local football community. Under the stewardship of Umar and El-Rufai, the club aims to reclaim its legacy and reestablish itself as a powerhouse in Nigerian football.
