Uchenna Kanu leaves Racing Louisville

Nigeria forward Uchenna Kanu has officially brought her time at Racing Louisville FC to an end, as the club confirmed her departure while announcing its returning and outgoing players ahead of the 2026 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.
Racing Louisville revealed on Wednesday, November 26, that Kanu—along with five other players—will enter free agency and will not be re-signed for the new campaign.
The Nigerian international joined Louisville on February 2, 2023, from Tigres UANL, signing a two-year contract with an option for a third season.
Kanu made an immediate impact in her debut year, featuring in 19 matches, including seven starts, and scoring her first goal for the club on May 31 against the Chicago Red Stars in the Challenge Cup. She continued that momentum in 2024, delivering strong attacking performances before a knee injury cut her season short.
Before the setback, she started 10 of her 12 appearances and scored five goals—highlighted by a sensational six-minute brace against the Portland Thorns, the fastest in Louisville’s history.
During the 2025 campaign—Louisville’s most successful season to date, which included their first-ever playoff appearance and record wins—Kanu made seven appearances and scored once before another knee injury prematurely ended her run.
The club paid tribute to the Nigerian forward in a farewell message:
“Part of the Racing family forever. We want to wish all our departing players the very best and thank them for their dedication and passion for the club.”
With an impressive résumé that spans Spain, Sweden, Mexico, and the United States, and a proven record of delivering goals at both club and international level, the 28-year-old now heads into free agency with considerable interest expected in her next move.
All eyes will be on what comes next for Kanu as she prepares for a new chapter in her career.
