Waidi Akanni Hails Lookman–Osimhen–Akor Adams Partnership After Super Eagles’ Big Win

Former Nigerian international Waidi Akanni has praised the growing chemistry between Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Akor Adams following Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Super Eagles delivered a dominant performance at the Complexe de Fes, breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute when Lookman finished off a cut-back from Akor Adams. Osimhen then took centre stage, scoring twice in quick succession in the 25th minute and 47th minute to stretch Nigeria’s lead to 3-0.

Akor Adams capped off the commanding display in the 75th minute, firing a powerful strike past goalkeeper Ernan Siluane at the near post to seal a comfortable win for the three-time African champions.

Reacting to the match while speaking as a guest on Afrosport’s AFCON 2025 coverage, Akanni highlighted the understanding and fluidity among the attacking trio, while also commending Nigeria’s defensive discipline.

“There is a good synergy among the trio of Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, and Victor Osimhen once the through pass comes from Alex Iwobi,” Akanni said.

“I am really impressed with their all-round performance against Mozambique; it was a fantastic display.

“Again, it was a good performance from the Super Eagles, and the team was solid also at the back.”

Nigeria’s victory not only secured their place in the quarter-finals but also marked their first clean sheet of the tournament, underlining a balanced performance that combined attacking ruthlessness with defensive solidity as they continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
