Alex Iwobi nears return ahead of Super Eagles friendlies

Alex Iwobi has delivered an encouraging update on his recovery from injury, handing a timely boost to Fulham F.C. and Eric Chelle ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
According to reports from Daily Post, Iwobi picked up the injury during Fulham’s 1-0 defeat to Brentford F.C. at the Community Stadium in April. The midfielder was forced off during the encounter, raising fears that he could miss the remainder of the campaign.
The Nigerian international subsequently sat out several Premier League fixtures, including matches against Aston Villa F.C., AFC Bournemouth, and Arsenal F.C., with Fulham struggling for consistency during his absence.
However, concerns surrounding the severity of the injury have now eased following the player’s latest update on his rehabilitation progress. Iwobi revealed that he is able to walk again, although he admitted he is still experiencing some discomfort. The midfielder also expressed relief that the issue is not a recurring injury.
Fulham manager Marco Silva had previously suggested that the injury would not sideline the midfielder for an extended period, and Iwobi’s recent comments appear to support that optimism.
Iwobi remains one of Fulham’s most influential players, admired for his composure in midfield, ability to drive transitions, and creativity in attacking situations. His absence has coincided with a dip in form for the London club during a crucial period of the season.
For the Nigeria national football team, the midfielder’s recovery is equally significant. Under Chelle, Iwobi has continued to play a key role as one of the squad’s most experienced and dependable performers, often serving as a creative focal point in midfield.
Nigeria are set to face Poland and Portugal in high-profile friendly matches in June, fixtures expected to play an important role in Chelle’s tactical preparations and squad evaluation ahead of future competitive assignments.
With the Premier League season nearing its conclusion, there is growing optimism that Iwobi could return to action for Fulham before the end of the campaign, improving his readiness for international duty with the Super Eagles.
